High School junior volunteer Isabel Wright’s “Python for Beginners” curriculum for our 7th-9th grade students

 

Last February, Leland High School San Jose junior Isabel Wright chose to sacrifice her President’s Week vacation time last February to participate in our annual high school student/parent volunteer trip to teach 7th-9th grade students at our village school, the Doris Dillon School in Cambodia.

After becoming proficient in the Python computer programming language, she created a curriculum to teach basic Python programming during the volunteer trip. She downloaded Python on all our school’s computers and trained our Computer class teacher Sa Veng so that he could continue developing students’ programming skills after she returned home.

As a programming language, Python’s versatility can be applied in many different areas, from machine learning and AI to gaming and creating mobile apps. As such, it’s an important skill to learn in a country that places emphasis on developing core technologies.
